FAQ

What is the correct Owlboy chapter order?
GameFAQs’ 2025 walkthrough lists seven sections: Vellie Caves, Owl Temple, Advent City, Forgotten Jungle, Molten, Dreadnought, and Space. That sequence matches every chapter page in the same guide.
Where does Tropos fit in the story?
Tropos is an overworld area you pass through before the Forgotten Jungle dungeon. GameFAQs treats it inside the Forgotten Jungle chapter, not as a separate numbered section.
Is the Floating Continent the same as Forgotten Jungle and Molten?
Community wikis split the Floating Continent into jungle and molten regions. GameFAQs names those sections Forgotten Jungle and Molten, which are the same progression beats.
When do Mesos and Strato appear?
Mesos, Mesos Passage, and Strato are overworld routes covered by third-party 100% guides between the molten dungeon and the pirate dreadnought. They are not a separate entry in GameFAQs’ seven-part table of contents.
Does this walkthrough cover the 2026 anniversary update?
Route order is unchanged in v1.0. Combat tips on linked boss pages may pre-date November 2026 balance tweaks; see the anniversary guide for Super Dash, auto-aim, and global boss changes.
Where is the final boss?
Solus is fought at the end of the Space section, in the Floating Tower area reached after the Dreadnought arc. See the dedicated Solus boss guide for phase-by-phase help.
Do I need every Buccanary coin to finish the story?
No. Coins unlock optional trinkets at the Buccanary shop and are tracked for completionists. The main story gates on dungeon progress, not coin totals.

Owlboy’s story is linear: one dungeon leads to the next floating island until you board the pirate dreadnought and eventually climb into space. This page is the chapter hub—order, naming notes, and links—so you can jump to the right detailed guide without rereading a 10-hour video.

What Order Should You Play the Owlboy Story Chapters?

Play in this sequence for the main campaign:

# GameFAQs section Also called Dedicated guide on this wiki
1 Vellie Caves Vellie hub + first dungeon First boss · Beginner guide
2 Owl Temple — (chapter page planned)
3 Advent City Advent / capital —
4 Forgotten Jungle Floating Continent (jungle) via Tropos —
5 Molten Floating Continent (molten) / Magma Temple —
— (overworld) Mesos, Mesos Passage, Strato, Twig’s arc Buccanary coins
6 Dreadnought Pirate ship / battleship Pirate ship walkthrough
7 Space Floating Tower (via Kernelle) Solus boss

After the table, the rule of thumb is simple: finish the dungeon you are in before backtracking for coins, unless a shop trinket would clearly help your next boss.

How Does the Vellie Arc Start?

You learn flight, carrying objects, and carrying Geddy as a gunner on the Vellie hub, then enter Vellie Caves after the troublemaker flees underground. The cave teaches spin attacks, optional coin rings, and the first boss—many players get stuck until they learn the armor-break trick (full first-boss guide).

When you return, pirates raid Vellie; the professor sends you toward Owl Temple while adults warn Advent. Controls and anniversary options (Super Dash, auto-aim) are summarized in controls and settings and anniversary update guide.

What Happens in Owl Temple and Advent City?

Owl Temple adds cloud-and-water puzzles, purple vines (cleared later with Alphonse’s shotgun), and The Turret fight where Dirk/Alphonse shoot from a pirate rig until you drop rocks on the ship. Alphonse joins permanently afterward.

Advent City is a stealth-and-chaos gauntlet: floating mines, rescuing NPCs, and several ship duels (including a missile ship Otus can spin back). It ends with your first look at the Dreadnought assault—not the full ship dungeon yet.

Where Are Forgotten Jungle, Hex Machine, and Molten?

From Tropos, Alphonse burns green vines into the Forgotten Jungle dungeon—dark rooms, torch fruit, the infamous owl-statue ring puzzle, then the Hex Machine (Fandom: Hex Machine; GameFAQs: Hexing Machine). Strip its helmet, dodge arms, then finish by triggering both wall sockets in the last phase.

Owlboy magenta-lit cave with hanging thorn vines and carved stone pillars Molten opens after raising Tropos statues. Expect Gorilla King (minion waves) and the molten mechanical worm chase. GameFAQs and Fandom both treat these as the molten-region boss pair.

What Are Mesos and Strato Between Molten and the Pirate Ship?

Not every guide lists Mesos as its own chapter. GameFAQs jumps from Molten to Dreadnought; Gamer Walkthroughs Part 9 documents Mesos, icy passages, Twig joining, Mesos Passage coin tunnels, and Strato waterfalls on the way back toward Tropos. Treat this as overworld linking content—important for 100% coins and Twig’s grapple, but still story-linear.

How Do Dreadnought and Space Finish the Game?

The Dreadnought chapter is the full pirate battleship infiltration—vents, timed doors, Twig’s grapple, and the Dirk duel—before Molstrom’s quarters and the rocket ride. Step-by-step help lives in the pirate ship walkthrough.

Space (Fandom: Floating Tower) changes gravity: limited flight, rising continent platforming, then Solus with rotating colored relics. No regular enemies appear until that final fight per GameFAQs.
